Dr. Zachary Mellion completed his undergraduate studies at Case Western Reserve University before attending the Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine for his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree, graduating in 2004. He completed his orthodontic training at the Saint Louis University Center for Advanced Dental Education, from which he graduated in 2006 with his Masters of Science in Orthodontics degree. He completes continuing education courses regularly to stay abreast of the latest advances in orthodontics, and has completed a Fellowship in cleft lip and palate treatments. Dr. Zach has practiced in the Fairlawn and Medina areas since 2006.
Dr. Zach is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Dental Association®, Ohio Dental Association, Akron Dental Society, Medina County Dental Society, American Association of Orthodontists® and the Cleveland Society of Orthodontists. He has received a number of awards, including:
- Thomas M. Graber Award of Special Merit – American Association of Orthodontists (2008)
- Wayne Hiatt Rising Star Award – Ohio Dental Association (2012)
- BF and Helen Dewel Award – American Journal of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics (2014)
- Greater Akron Chamber “30 for the Future” (2016)
As an orthodontist, Dr. Zach’s goal is to provide excellent care to his patients and to work with his colleagues to help raise the overall level of dental care that our community receives. Specific to Mellion Orthodontics, Dr. Zach and his brother work hard to create a fun and welcoming atmosphere for their patients and staff. They cherish the relationships they have built with their team and patients and want people around them to feel respected and appreciated.
Dr. Zach and his wife, Keira (who is a veterinarian), have three children. When not in the office, Dr. Zach loves being active outdoors and is particularly passionate about cycling. He races mountain bikes, gravel and cyclocross. He also enjoys skiing, hiking and anything that involves being in the mountains. He also enjoys coffee and the science behind pulling a great shot of espresso!
